The 14. EAS Conference 2006 took place within the scope of the 26. Federal Week for Music in Schools held by the VdS (Verband deutscher Schulmusiker – Association of German Music Teachers at Schools in Würzburg, Germany, from September 28 – 29, 2006.

Cooperation VDS (German Association for music in schools) and EAS

The EAS-conference took place in connection and cooperation with the big german congress of the german association VDS (Verband Deutscher Schulmusiker www.vds-musik.de), so called "Bundesschulmusikwoche 2006". On the website of the VDS you can find some more information on this huge event with hundreds of speakers, workshops, discussions etc.:

The program of the EAS-conference

The event started with an international panel where the participants got information about how music education projects of the European Union or other organisations can be realised. Speakers from various institutions discussed the importance of building networks in the field of music education.

This was followed by a session that focussed on experiences and outlooks of the Bologna process and the education of music teachers in Europe. Presented by Franz Niermann, president of the EAS, an intense discussion led to questions like: what kind of impact does Bologna have on the artistic and musicological education of music teachers?

Other sessions broached issues of different innovative initiatives in the field of music education or focussed on special already existing networks. An absorbing survey of the diversity of music education in Europe was followed by a session on concepts of lifelong learning for music teachers.

4th International Student Forum 2006

As always in the framework of EAS conferences the International Students Forum, which had taken place in Würzburg, showed the results of their work during a special session. Please find further information about the Students Forum 2006 on this website.

General assembly of the EAS

An important part of the conference was of course the general assembly of the EAS. The topics and discussion were related to the report of the EAS board. Please find the detailed minutes at the members site. After the Plenary Session the National Coordinators had lots of talks and a nice evening in a Würzburg restaurant.

Once again the annual conference was a prime way to learn about the most current topics in the field of music education and to make and renew contacts with others. Highest quality academic research was combined with displays of publically-minded projects.
