concept, includes “activity chains” such as exploration,
improvisation, creation/ reproduction and reflects on music learning
for students of all ages. Classroom materials focus on songs,
speech, movement and instrumental pieces.

On the Traces of Music and Dance
Based on improvisation as initiator and central element in
composing processes, the workshop focuses on communication
and improvisation with the body, voice and materials in music and
dance. Different ways of getting into improvisation will be used
starting from musical tasks as well as from movement and dance
and will lead to small compositions.
(Sonja Stibi, Salzburg)
Dance Basics
The body is the instrument of the dancer. Through sensory
exercises and improvisational explorations – alone, with a partner or
in a group – we will experience dance in space, time and with
dynamics, giving our dancing ideas form. The emphasis is placed on
the enjoyment of dancing and on our own personal expression.
(Andrea Ostertag, Salzburg)
Body Music
Using the oldest instrument on the planet – the human body – we
clap, slap, snap, step and vocalize our way through rhythmic music.
Body Music is an effective way of internalizing rhythmic work, which
enhances the development of time, timing, phrasing, listening skills,
independence, coordination and ensemble awareness, as we
explore polyrhythms, polymeters, crosspulses, phasing and more.
(Keith Terry, Oakland)

IV Come and play – with Orff Instruments
Orff instruments enable elemental music making – in simple
but also sophisticated forms. The playful learning of
instrumental basics and the handling of musical building
bricks give impulses for the teaching and composing of songs,
dances, musical pieces.
(Micaela Grüner, Salzburg)
V Integrating the Arts – Movement/ Dance, Fine Art,
Poetry, Music
Cristalize to words – visualize in drawings – express with the
body – resound in our ears – bring us together – give shape
to inner pictures. This practical class needs movement dress.
Please bring with you big sheets of papers and crayons.
(Barbara Haselbach, Salzburg)
VI You Can Compose....
The sessions will draw together the elemental meaning of
music, its sounds, techniques and structures. We will
explore traditional and experimental forms starting with
analysing and comparing existing musical pieces and will offer
possibilities to create and notate own ideas.
(Reinhold Wirsching, Salzburg)
