Short Biography
Dr. Natassa Economidou Stavrou is Assistant Professor in Music Education at University of Nicosia, Department of Music and Dance. She is a Music BA holder from the University of Athens and a Music Education MA holder from the University of Reading. She gained her PhD in Education from the University of Athens in 2004, in the field of Music Curriculum. She presented papers in international conferences regarding Music Curriculum, teacher education and the use of interdisciplinary approach in the subject of Music. Her work has been published, between others, in the British Journal of Music Education and Arts Education Policy Review, as well as in international books. She has lectured in the field “Methodology of Music Teaching and Learning” at the Department of Education, University of Cyprus from 1998-2006 and in European University Cyprus, Department of Arts from 2006-2010. She is a member of the editorial committee of the International Journal for Music Education: Research, the newly lounged European Journal of Research in Music Education and the Greek refereed journal Music Pedagogics. From 2005 she is the appointed National coordinator for Cyprus of the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS). She is currently the secretary general of the board of directors of the Cyprus Music Institute. She is also the treasurer of the board of directors of the Cyprus Gender Research Centre, which she joined in 2007. In 2009 she was appointed by the Cypriot Ministry of Education as one of the two academics to coordinate the design of the new Cypriot National Curriculum in Music.
