Welcome to the Estonian section!
The world-famous Hungarian music pedagogue and conductor Zoltán Kodály has said – “When a school sings, the nation sings”. Estonian old and honourable traditions of music education date back to hundreds of years. Although the content and emphases have changed in time, singing has remained the central axis of music education, the Song Festival being its phenomenal output.
The foundation for furthering and developing the Song Festival tradition as the national cultural legacy is established at school with a music teacher being the key person. In addition to singing, music education also consists of playing musical instruments, listening to music and creativity, which all have an important role in the development of a balanced and creative personality. Maintaining its genuine culture and originality, Estonian music education is open to the diversity of the world’s cultural space.
