Short biography


Regina Murphy is Senior Lecturer at St Patrick’s College, Dublin City University, where she teaches, designs and directs postgraduate courses at diploma and masters level. She is a former primary school principal who taught for several years in schools in Ireland, New Zealand and England. She has presented at numerous inservice workshops and conferences, nationally and internationally. She has also worked in educational research and with the curriculum authority in Ireland in developing the national primary music curriculum and related assessment methods. She has collaborated with other educators and musicians to produce resource materials for primary schools in the form of CDs, text and image-based resources. Her research interests include music curriculum and assessment, generalist and specialist expertise, professional development, interdisciplinarity, participatory paradigms in teaching and research, and arts-based educational research. Regina is a member of the editorial board of international music and arts journals. She is a founder member of the Society for Music Education in Ireland (SMEI) and a member of the executive board of the International Society for Music Education (ISME).
