Short biography

Marina Gall has worked as a lecturer at the University of Bristol since 1999. For 16 years prior to this, she taught Music at secondary level, including work as Director of Community Music and Head of Arts in inner London schools. During a sabbatical in 1993, she worked in the Janacek Academy for Music and Drama, Brno, Czech Republic. In her current position she coordinates the one year teacher training programme for secondary school music teachers and leads masters work in music education. She is also a senior tutor and steering committee member for the University's Teaching and Learning Programme for staff.

Between 2006 and 2009, Marina chaired the steering committee of the Music Education Network (http://menet.mdw.ac.at/menetsite/english/index.html). In this project, together with 24 music educators from 12 European countries, she researched music education and teacher training practices across Europe. From 2001-2004, she coordinated the work of the Music team on the InteractiveProject (http://www.interactiveeducation.ac.uk/). This longitudinal study considered ICT in a range of school subjects within primary, secondary and tertiary education and included research into the use of ICT in music classrooms.  Marina has written journal articles and book chapters on music technology.  In 2007, she began researching ICT in music education across Europe within the NET Music Project 01 and is currently co-editing an EAS book on the subject, which is due out in Autumn 2011.
