1st Latvian Music Olimpiad 2012
The 1st Latvian Music Olympiad 2012 for students of general comprehensive middle and secondary schools was organised by the Latvian Music Teachers' Association (LVIIMSA) and the Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) in cooperation with the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science. It was held in Riga, March 8, 2012.

The aims of the Olympiad were:
· To strengthen the position of music education as a creative subject in national curricula;
· To create motivation and offer musically talented young people opportunities for artistic self-expression at national level;
· To widen opportunities for music teachers.
1st Latvian Music Olympiad was organized in two age groups (age 12-14 and 15-18) and two sub-groups (A - students who study extra music at the music school or study music as an additional subject, B - no extra music lessons or training).
We are proud of the 1st Latvian Music Olympiad Winners Composition’s Edition that was published in May 2012.

7 participants from Latvia - Beate Locika, Eriks Zeps, Ance Bārzdina, Rebeka Goba, Rebeka Ritene, Pauls Nartiss and Samanta Bernate - took part in the 1st International Music Olympiad in Tallinn

1st Music Teacher’s Competition 2012
The 1st Music Teacher’s Competition organized by the Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) in cooperation with the Latvian Music Teachers' Association (LVIIMSA) for the future music teachers will be held in Riga, November 23,24 2012.
The aim of the competition is to promote future music teachers' professional development and creative methodological approach in practice.
